I believe that expository preaching is the best way to preach the Bible. I agree with Haddon Robinson’s definition of expository preaching: “the communication of a biblical concept, derived from and transmitted through a historical, grammatical, literary study of a passage in its context, which the Holy Spirit first applies to the personality and experience of the preacher, then through him to his hearers” (Biblical Preaching: The Development and Delivery of Expository Messages, Baker Book House 1980, p. 30). Generally, I feel it is best to preach through books of the Bible since verse-by-verse expository preaching “provides significant benefits for a pastor” (Bryan Chapell, Christ-Centered Preaching: Redeeming the Expository Sermon, 2nd ed., Baker Academic 2005, p. 65). For me, the most important benefit of preaching straight through a book of the Bible is that this method helps to tether me to the text of the Bible and thus to avoid eisegeting rather than exegeting any given text.

Since God has called me to the ministry of preaching, I have preached through two books of the Bible: Philippians and 1 Timothy. I am currently preaching through Titus.
